Humility – The Most Beautiful Word in Fitness

Hello friends!  I trust you are well and life is going your way.  It has been awhile since last we chatted so I thought I’d drop in and start the conversation.  This article is directed more toward fitness professionals than for those looking for information about attaining and maintaining a fit, vibrant lifestyle.  But, then again, perhaps it could be directed toward anyone open to the message that sometimes more is less, bigger is not necessarily better and thoughtful silence always gains more respect that boisterous pontification. So on with my potentially boring and most assuredly over-worded babble…….. Those of…

Confused About Supplements?

I Recommend These Daily

Over the past few weeks I have received so many great supplement questions from readers wanting to know which supplements support a healthy, lean, muscular physique.  Perhaps because it’s the start of the new year or perhaps it’s because there are so many different options out there, picking the ones that are best for you can get confusing.   You know I am a rather conservative supplement user and tend to work with people more interested in eating quality whole foods as a first step toward nutrition while relying on supplements to do just that, “supplement” your food intake, not replace…

Getting Fit? Planning is Everything!

Next week marks year 17 that I’ve been taking college courses.  So far, it’s been a whole lot of work and discovery, done mostly at night and on weekends.  Sometimes it has proven to be more of a pain in the ass than most pleasurable ventures, but there is a sense of faith that I have that it will all be worth it.  Therefore, I keep going.  There is an exam I have scheduled for this Wednesday, January 9th.  It’s called a generals examination and my dissertation committee basically decides whether or not I have the mental marbles to continue…

Physical Fitness is both Talent and Skill

God gave us some, others we must practice

The longer I work in the fitness industry and engage in a fit lifestyle, the more I am convinced that physical fitness is much more than a state of being, more than a destination or journey and much much more than a way of life.  Physical fitness, to me, has become many things over the years, first, a goal – a way of looking and feeling.  Next it became a way of moving, functioning and interacting with my environment.  More recently it has become more like a living entity, something without end that lives and evolves, ebbs and flows, increases…

Great Barbell Complex Workouts

All you need is a bar and some weights

I’m not sure about you, but my motivation, like everything in my life, comes in cycles.  There are times when motivation is sky-high and when it’s a challenge to even think about getting to the gym or eating that “clean” meal.  If you’re anything like me then there are a couple of things you struggle with.  One of those things is the knowledge that whether you want to or not, fitting that bout of physical activity/workout/play/exercise into your day is a fundamental necessity.  You know as well as I do that anything we let slide, fall by the wayside or…
